Note From Garon:
Okay, it’s… December? December. Right. Still working on Book Five. The story is told—and it’s a lot of story—but now I have to clean it up. It’s like a newborn baby, covered in blood and goo, screaming about the unfairness of it all. It takes a while before it’s all clean and pink and adorable. Although “adorable” might not be the right word for what I write.
I know, I know—it’s taking a long time. I’m having mapmaking discussions, working on the Nightlord Wiki when I can, re-doing most of the covers for the series, trying to work on the song/poem/thing of The Thirsty King (anybody out there a poet?), and sometimes sleeping.
It’s also a long book. The Nightlord books average around 320,000 words. It takes a while to write, re-write, re-re-write, edit, proofread, change my mind and re-re-re-write, edit some more, and so on.
(For reference, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix clocks in around 257,000.
The entire Lord of the Rings trilogy is about 450,000.
The Great Book of Amber—the entire ten-book Chronicles—is only 390,000!)
Oh, there’s a holiday thing happening soon. Joyful Solstice! Happy Hanukah! Merry Christmas! <Insert Politically Correct Greeting Here>!
Not much of a newsletter, is it? Well, I’m boring when it comes to anything outside my head. Eat, sleep, write, repeat.
Speaking of things happening in my head, Eric spent Halloween eyeballing some would-be wizards at a Halloween party on one of the mundane Earth-worlds. Whatever happened to that? Well…
And now, back to Book Five. See you next year!
I ignored the loudmouth. I’ve suffered worse than some schmo yelling at a movie theater screen. I felt sure he would quiet down once the picture actually started. Down front, however, someone else wasn’t quite so tolerant. The theater didn’t have handicapped...
